How To Make $45,000 In Two Days

The guys at Hexatrack show exactly how to make $45,000 in two days with their new free tool, Hexatrack.

Here's the play-by-play breakdown of what they did: 

  1. They identified an interesting, timely offer on the CommissionJunction affiliate network with a payout of $15.00 per conversion.
  2. The offer was centered around a main keyword; let's say it was a 2-word keyphrase which we'll call the "seed keyword."
  3. They "dropped the seed" into the HexaTrack keyword spy tool, which yielded a few dozen "short tail" keywords used by our competitors at the time. If  competitors are using these keywords, they can't be all wrong!
  4. They prepared to spend some money in Google Adwords and uploaded these short tail keywords to a new Adwords campaign. ("Short-tail keywords" are named so because they contain the seed keyword plus one additional word, or two at the most.)
  5. Then they began running these "short tail" keywords as "broad matches"… i.e. if a user searches Google for a phrase that is identical with the short-tail phrase, it's a match… but more importantly, if the Google user's phrase contains the short tail phrase, it's a match as well!
     
    Are you following on why they were running their first list of spyed-out keywords in broad match mode?
     
    For example, if the keyword we were paying for was "life insurance", and a Google user searched for "capital life insurance," our ad would still successfully display on Google, because "capital life insurance" contains the phrase "life insurance". Thus, it's a broad match!

    Here's the kicker… (important!)

  6. Whenever a conversion happened (sale, lead) HexaTrack would detect the actual keyword that the user entered into Google at the time… which is not necessarily the keyword that we were bidding on originally!

    Let me repeat this, because it's so important: After every time you convert a click to a sale or lead (a money-making action), HexaTrack will report back to you the long-tail keyword that the user had actually searched for, which may be different from the short-tail keyword that you were bidding on in the first place.

    For example, if you ran the broad match on the short-tail keyword "life insurance" from the example above, you might find out from HexaTrack:

    a) that "life insurance" by itself is an overpriced keyword because it is so broad that "everyone and their brother" bids on it (remember, most bidders on Adwords don't know what they're doing, and thus drive up bid prices on "obvious", but badly-converting keywords); and
     
    b) that a handful of previously-unknown "long tail" keywords such as "California life insurance review" turn out to be hotly-converting keywords …and they aren't even keywords that you were explicitly bidding on!

    Without HexaTrack you would not have had that information at all!

    (Frankly, I don't even know how we made any money in PPC before we developed HexaTrack!?! Larry?)

  7. Here's what we did next: We simply removed the expensive broad-match/short-tail terms that didn't make any money… and replaced them with the lean, cheap, long-tail keywords that HexaTrack found out for us… i.e. we are now only buying those keywords from Adwords that users actually tend to enter before they buy!

    Put another way: We're replacing our ad spy keywords that may sell, with the actual keywords that are proven to convert Google users into conversions. We are taking OUT the guesswork.

    For example, if our initial test with "life insurance" was unprofitable, we would now replace it with a dozen or so exact-matches of various long-tails that HexaTrack found out for us. One of these long-tails could be, for example, "california life insurance review", which HexaTrack could have reported to us as one of the keywords that we know has actually converted real people to our $15 affiliate offer!

Do you get it?

  • First HexaTrack generated our initial "test balloon" short-tail keyword list right out of the box, by spying on our competitors (which is basically a VERY good estimate on what people will enter and what keywords are likely converting for our competiitors)…
  • Then, after just hours, it showed us the precise keywords that people actually entered before they clicked on our money-making affiliate offer, so we could eliminate some of the expensive short-tail duds from our keyword arsenal and enter the profit zone rapidly. (Within a day of testing to be exact.)

$45,000+ within 2 days after the initial experimental phase — how is one supposed to react to that?

Were we all cool and laid-back about this result? Did we chalk it up as just anoher night at the office… business as usual at Larry & Amish's? Of course not! This was a home-run in anyone's book, no matter what some Adwords gurus would want you to believe… :-D

The point here is not to make you think that you can make 45 grand out of the gate, every other day, from the first day you're using HexaTrack PRO. The point is that, with diligent research of the kind we'll be teaching our PRO members, you probably will stumble upon a gold mine market like this, a few times a year. Consider such spectacular opportunities as the gravy on top of your meat-and-potatoes markets… (the latter being the ones that bring you solid PPC income every single day).

Will You Buy The Competition, Or Be Put Out Of Business?

As Web 2.0 becomes less of just a buzzword and more of a
reality, the types of sites webmasters need to publish will
increasingly become more important. In other words,
mini-sites are slowly dying and cookie-cutter article sites
are on the way out as well. Web surfers will become more
value-focused and web companies will become larger.

Over the next few years expect larger conglomerates to be
buying up profitable websites in their chosen markets.
Expect smaller sites to either be bought or driven out of
business. My intention is not to scare you, but this
outcome is inevitable.

Large businesses have always taken two approaches to their
desired markets. They either buy their competition or they
push them out of business. You want to be prepared when
this trend begins on the Internet.

Being a webmaster and online marketer, you should be
preparing for one of two scenarios. To position yourself
for a buyout to a larger company or to become the larger
company that dominates your chosen market.

Whichever route you choose is entirely up to you, but I
would suggest that it would be in your best interest to
begin focusing on authority sites. You can either start
building them or turning your current sites into them.
Whatever your approach may be, I assure you it will help
you sleep better at night.

What Is the Definition of an Authority Site?

A fairly comprehensible authority site definition was put
forward by Jason Dowdell of Global Promoter. Jason defined
it this way: …quot;Authority sites are sites that have
been linked to and referenced on other web sites covering
the same subject matter and they also will have hundreds if
not thousands of pages covering that subject matter and
nearly every facet of it….quot;

That definition is one man’s opinion, albeit a good one,
but let us go directly to the source. Many search engine
optimization and search engine marketing experts believe
Google has derived their primary algorithm from a document
titled, "Hilltop: A Search Engine based on Expert
Documents."

The PageRank formula as we know it today was derived from
this paper, and the authors, Bharat and Mihaila, define an
authority site in the text below:

"We believe a page is an authority on the query topic if
and only if some of the best experts on the query topic
point to it. Of course in practice some expert pages may be
experts on a broader or related topic. If so, only a subset
of the hyperlinks on the expert page may be relevant."

"In such cases the links being considered have to be
carefully chosen to ensure that their qualifying text
matches the query. By combining relevant out-links from
many experts on the query topic we can find the pages that
are most highly regarded by the community of pages related
to the query topic. This is the basis of the high relevance
that our algorithm delivers."

What we have reprinted above is the foundation of the
PageRank system and the determination for deciding which
sites will be authorities. I highly recommend you read and
re-read the full document until you understand every aspect
of it.

What Are the Components of an Authority Site?

Allow me to present you with a diagram at:

typical authority site. As you can tell from the diagram, a
considerable number of components and systems must be in
place for the authority site to function profitably and
reap the benefits of the "Authority Site Formula."

The Authority Site Formula = Visitor Optimization (VO) +
Content Optimization (CO) * Creative Marketing (CM)

A simple question must be asked. What do 99.9% of authority
sites provide? In a sentence, an incredible amount of
original content and a superb visitor experience. The
search engines want you to succeed and they want you to
make money, but you have to play by their rules. In the
future, focus your efforts on visitor optimization and
content optimization instead of search engine optimization.

What Is the Anatomy of an Authority Site?

About.com is the definition and was the original authority
site. Their site has a generic domain name and hundreds of
subdomains on different topics.

Your authority site should take the same approach, but not
on such a general level. If you launch an authority site,
it should be geared towards a well-defined and large
market. After you launch the site and generate some
traffic, you should create subdomains that cover specific
areas inside that larger market.

For example, Diabetic-Resources.Com is not an active site;
but if it were, then a typical authority site setup would
be something like:

* http://supplies.diabetic-resoures.com *
http://diet.diabetic-resources.com *
http://insurance.diabetic-resources.com *
http://symptoms.diabetic-resources.com *
http://treatment.diabetic-resources.com

Using this approach, you are able to target your general
market while generating more targeted traffic pertaining to
related sub-markets.

As a rule of thumb, the index pages on your domains and
subdomains should be more focused on content, but the
article and commentary pages should be more focused on
advertising. Just do not ever lose sight of the most
important aspect of your site, which is visitor experience
otherwise known as visitor optimization.

What Does It Take to Create an Authority Site?

You want to create a site that generates thousands of
visitors a day mainly through the major search engines, and
would ultimately be the one-stop source for information in
that particular market.

Your site must employ three traits to become an authority
site. Let’s discuss all three necessary aspects:

Dynamic: You should have as many RSS feeds as you can
muster to incorporate throughout your site. Your visitors
need to be able to receive RSS feeds for any keyword,
category or archive as well as create their own. One feed
is no longer enough to satisfy your visitors.

Interactive: You should be engaging the minds of your
visitors at all times using surveys, commenting and
feedback. Make these features easy for your visitors and
your site will grow exponentially. Why? Because they feel
like you actually care about them. Interaction is a
powerful tool and creates a sense of community on your site.

Consistent: You should post to your blog often, and you
should always provide quality and original content. That
doesn't mean you need to produce 800-word articles three
times a week. Your goal should be to become a news master.
You need to be an …quot;authority…quot; on the news
happening in your niche.

If you follow the steps and guidelines listed above, then
you will be on your way to being the owner of an authority
site.

Do I Even Have A Content Strategy?

After reading this article by Russell Wright of ThemeZoom, http://www.theme-zoom.com/167/are-you-putting-content-in-the-wrong-place/,  I realized that I may have set up my sites in the wrong way, using the content in a way that did not help me.  Even Twittering in a way that was not helping me.

I was a member of ThemeZoom when they first introduced their service back in 2005 or early 2006, but I didn't understand a thing.  Since then, I have changed quite a bit, and ThemeZoom seems to have developed their services as well.  I think the people at Themezoom really put out a lot of quality info. Take a look at the article about how content can be scored and placed correctly or incorrectly, as the case may be. For example, much is talked about the importance of researching your online "verticle market" and "keyword clusters".  It's all very scientific and detailed.  No messing around when it comes to marketing.

There are also articles and video instruction  talking about tests they have carried out and are in the process of carrying out, like the difference between using Tube  Mogul and Traffic Geyser.  Russell Wright says that  you will get ranked for keywords with fewer than 500,000 competing pages on Google when you submit a properly tagged video.  That we should only use You Tube videos on our main site if it has relevance, otherwise You Tube videos should be used on your support sites and only HD quality videos should be used on your main sites.  Hmmm - now that's interesting - that there are quality scores associated with the quality of the audio and visual content on your site.  They talk about where to use widgets, about the purpose of your primary website (you USP of course) and that it is the business question you are proposing to answer with your USP that is presented on the main site, that we should not use spun content on primary website, when you use excerpts from books…

Social Networking Through Ping.fm

I joined Ping.fm back in April but never got around to using it.  Ping.fm is a simple service that makes updating all your social networks easy peasy.

What happened was that I changed my Twitter user profile name from @ebizmom to @AngelWickenberg and the Twiiter app that updated my Facebook profile, as well as the app that I could post to Twitter and Friendfeed from didn't work for me.

The problem was that I had also created a new profile called @ebizmom, just in case people didn't know how to find me, but also in case I didn't feel comfortable with my new user name, so I turned to Ping.fm to solve the problem.

With Ping, you can update from just about anywhere. Use AIM, GTalk, iGoogle, WAP, iPhone/iPod Touch, SMS or E-mail and let Ping.fm relay your message to a multitude of social networking sites.

Ping has a "trigger system" and have broken down the services into three groups; blogging, micro-blogging and status updates.

You can control how your messages are posted as well as where. If you don't include a trigger from below in your message, your message will be delivered as your default method.

Examples:

@s message - Posts a status update
@b title^body - Posts a blog
@m message - Posts a micro-blog

 

 

Ping.fm is a simple service that makes updating your social networks a snap!

 

Beta is still in session. To update your Facebook profile, an application key must be received from Ping.fm.

Experiences From The 30-Day Challenge

Cool Got positions #1 and #2 within 1 hour

I joined the 30 day challenge with three of my kids, 17, 16 and 9 years of age.  But they are not yet really interested in working with this. I believe they'll come round, so I'm giving them some space and some time and doing the work myself right now. I had fallen behind the lessons in the pre-season and in the 30-day challenge iteself. It is my opinion that these lessons, both pre-season and the challenge itself, are the best marketing lesson on the market at this time, and I have purchased LOTS of courses during the past 12 years online.

I worked all Friday when the kids were at home. When their dad picked them up, I worked all evening with short breaks.  Felt motivated so I continued to work all night and got to bed at 8 AM. I slept for 3 hours and decided to check the serps.

I only bookmarked at five sites, including Digg and Stumbleupon. Those two links gave me #1 and # 2 positions of 530,000. So this is probably a temporary thing, unless I do something fast. Still there after 8 hours though.

I have five of the positions with the keyword phrase in quotations marks.

In quotes, this phrase gets only Results 1 - 10 of about 1,620.

Still the competition in that field is rough - I only lucked out on a good keyword phrase and need to sharpen the selling factors of the website - which still looks pretty crappy at the moment.

I didn't check when i first bookmarked as I thought it would take a few hours.

It's a very broad phrase. The first page is with high PR sites and lots of back links and authority linking (just goes to show that doesn't always matter), but they had not optimized those pages ranking for that term.

There are two-word phrases that seem impossible to go after - with between 8-18 million searches, and even many of the three-word phrases was far too much competition in them. So now I have to go back and do some serious bookmarking and improvements in the attractiveness of the website itself.

Also, I am adding a blog today. So you see, it wasn't even a WP blog, or a blog at all!

Another thing is that my template on my website is broken, so the site looks really awful, but I guess that didn't come into play here at this time. It will be important within the next few days, however.
