"Deliberate practice": what separates the merely good from the great

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

"He's just a natural." How many times have you heard someone say that in order to explain somebody else's greatness? This "explanation" derives from the commonplace belief that certain individuals have an innate gift that the rest of us didn't get and never will.  There's just a slight problem with this belief: it's wrong!

A recent article in the Harvard Business Review by some noted researchers totally debunks the myth of "the natural."* Studies by more than 100 scientists consistently and overwhelmingly proved this astonishing truth: experts are always made, not born.

Moreover, the studies show that the greats in any field do something that the average ones don't: they achieve their greatness through hours, days, and years of always practicing deliberately. Golfing great Ben Hogan once said, "While I am practicing I am also trying to develop my powers of concentration. I never just walk up and hit the ball."**

These researchers say that when most people practice, they just focus on the things they already know how to do. That's why, for example, an average salesperson makes the same easy calls over and over—and still calls it "selling." But a great salesperson, on the other hand, deliberately works at what he or she currently can't do well. And the research shows that this continual, deliberate effort is the distinguishing factor between the good and the great.

So, what does it take to become adept at deliberate practice? We think it's not only having the right tools or techniques, it's also having the right mindset in the first place. You have to have your mind focused in order to apply the techniques you've learned.

If you find that you are:

1. Not practicing your skills regularly (like you tell yourself you are going to do)

2. Not able to perform "live" as you do when you are practicing.

3. Fearful (not your full self while prospecting).

4. Not stretching and constantly improving.

Then it is likely that you are experiencing subconscious blocks.   These subconscious blocks can fight your conscious efforts every step of the way.

This is common, and probably the main reason why most beginning sales professionals and network marketers fail.  However, there are things you can do.

Through extensive experience, we have found that the safest, fastest, and most effective way to overcome these blocks is through hypnosis. Now, we're not talking about that fakery you've seen in B-movies. Clinical hypnosis is a proven technique that has been approved by both the American Medical Association and the British Medical Association since the 1950s.

Hypnosis helps you uninstall those blocks and install a mindset that facilitates—not blocks—your desire to become the performer you know you can be.  When you achieve this type of alignment, you find that deliberate practice becomes just something that you do, and you get better and better every day.

This of course means a direct and tangible benefit to your income, your financial freedom, and your options in life.

Finding a qualified psychologist who understands how to use hypnosis to help you in your sales or network marketing career can be difficult and extremely expensive.  A great option is use a home study audio hypnosis program created by a known commodity.

We believe the cream of the crop is a program created by Dr. Peter Lambrou, one of the country's best-known sales psychologists (and a former successful salesperson himself).  Dr. Lambrou is also the Chair of Psychology at Scripps Memorial Hospital (a major research facility).

The program is published by The Hypnosis Network, a company that works only with licensed mental-health professionals like Dr. Lambrou.  And this company is so sure of the effectiveness of its programs that it gives you a one-year money-back guarantee. Check it out at http://www.hypnosisnetwork.com/hypnosis/sales_prospecting.php

Jeff Johnson on Project Management

Jeff Johnson of Traffic King Pro, was interviewed by Dr. Mike
for an outsourcing product he released earlier this year.
I believe the product was sold for five or six hundred dollars.

The product is no longer for sale but here's a free copy of the interview.
Dr Mike and Howie picked Jeff Johnson's brain for well over an hour.

On Paradigm Shifts - Changes In Fundamental Shifts in Thinking

One of my favorite books is "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People". Like so many of the books I have read throughout the years, I passionately read and accepted Franklin Covey's teachnings and practices, but then after a time, lost focus and went on to the next thing in my life.

But recently, I have been faced with incredible challenges, some might even say "unspeakable"… and this has led me into a paradigm shift in my way of seeing things and the way I think…  I didn't actually think I would go through yet another paradigm shift  this year, but it happened.

It wasn't planned; it was just a flash of awareness that came up on me today,  but when looking back, I can see how this has gradually come into being throughout the last few months.  The situation I had been enduring suddenly lost all meaning - I finally realized that. And I relaxed all my efforts in that direction.

Steven Covey says that many people experience a similar fundamental shift in thinking when they face a life-threatening crises and suddenly see their priorities in a different light, or when they suddenly step into a new role… if we want to make relatively minor changes, we can focus on our attitudes and behaviors, but if we want "significant quantum change", we need to work on our basic paradigms.

But this doesn't happen in an instant.  It is intimiately associated with who we are - with our character.  If we want to change our lives, we have to change development our character, the perspective through which we view things and people and situations. Sometimes we create situations in which we are simply forced to develop character, or perish.  Always looking for shortcuts in life, trying to skip vital steps in order to save time and effort and still reap the desired results. But when we shortcut natural processes in our growth and development, we end up becoming very disappointed with ourselves, and disppointing everyone else around us.

We have heard it all before, but never want to listen; we have to take baby steps before we start to run. Many of our failures are due to this one thing - this one defect - our refusal to accept the fact that  "A thousand mile journey begins with a single step"…

…and must be taken one step at a time…

To You Online Success,

Angela Wickenberg

On The One Yard Line And Goal To Go…

Maybe it was because I was the youngest,

or maybe it was because I was a tom-boy up until I was 13.

Whatever the reason was, my step-father let me come with him and my mom

to the big football games at the Collosium in L.A.,

but also to the Hollywood Park Horse Races

and basketball games at the Forum, and baseball games, too.

Not that I really understood the games, or even played them with friends.

I guess I understood enough to enjoy the game,

(and maybe I wanted the exposure for people to see me… that sort of thing starts early:)

I sure didn't have the physique to play football.

Between the ages of 11-14, the image of Olive Oil in "Popeye The Sailor Man" comes to mind…

American sports, whatever the season, were on the TV at our house.

When I became a full-fledged teenager, I resisted watching sports on TV

but continued to go along with them to the races or to the games when invited.

I had forgotten about all that - football and sports -

when a friend of mine wrote to me today

that I was "on the one-yard line and goal to go…".

He has a knack for saying stuff like that - just a few words that says it all.

I can tell you, that put a smile on my face!  Why?

Because with all the stuff going on, I have still made a lot of progress, after all…

My glass is more than half-full…it's almost full to the brim! ::)))

That's a platitude that I mentioned in a previous post,

http://e-bizsecretsexposed.com/blog/137/reflections-on-the-new-year/

but it feels good to have that image. Maybe you can think of a better image…

And at the risk of sounding cheesy with the following comparison,

like Time Magazine writes in an article on World War 2,

I called for time-out on the one-yard line.

After marching nearly the length of the field

in an unbroken series of power plays,

I needed to pull my team together for the last effort.

My players need to sponge their faces

and have their ankles taped.

I  also hope to find some fresh backs to carry the ball.

So I've drawn my team back into a huddle.

I'm on the one yard line and goal to go…

O.K. - I made some hiring mistakes,

and my quarterback fumbled on the one yard line…

But all is not lost.

My team hasn't lost the game and still has the ball.

I took advantage of a time out to make sure that the team makes the goal.

And since I'm only in competition with myself,

there is no one there to take the ball from my team, unless I let them.

Unless I give it away.

Do YourSelf A Favor - Help A Friend in Need - Download Free Report and Feed A Child

Dear Friends,

I once heard someone say:  Make it a regular practice to offer to help people out without expecting immediate compensation.  If you do this every week, you'll soon find yourself wealthy with appreciative genuine friends that want to help you.

One of the best ways you can not only make yourself feel good, but benefit yourself in the future is to offer to help other people out with no immediate expectation of compensation.

Every human society has a value system that includes reciprocity.  That is, a system where one party does something for another and then the favor is returned at a future date.

Reciprocity is one of the critical elements that has allowed humans to prosper.  So, it's a very powerful ingrained force in people.  Think about it.  When someone does something to help you out, don't you feel a strong urge to return the favor?

And this goes the other way.  Because in today's cut-throat world there seems to be less and less people willing to help others out without immediate compensation, when you do offer to help someone out, it's highly appreciated.

So, you not only get to do a good deed where you can feel a glow inside because you did something nice, but it's quite likely that someday that favor will be returned.  Quite often, it's returned with much more interest than you ever expected the favor deposit to earn.

Naturally, you need to use common sense.  You don't loan someone you hardly know your life savings since they had a tough day.  But, you might offer to give someone a ride when their car is in the shop, or help your elderly neighbor fix something in their house.  Other ideas are to be a father to the fatherless child, bring along a less fortunate child to the movies or to your weekly family dinner at the restaurant, help someone without a car and sufficient funds buy groceries, sit and watch tv with a lonely old person.  One day you will be old too.

Remember however, it may not always be the person you gave the favor to that will return the favor.  I believe that somehow "the universe" returns the favor or favors in big and/or small ways, but not from the exact same kind of situation or person.

Last night, I received three emails with the same content. Stephen Pierce has taken the initiative to raise enough money to feed one million children.  Armand Morin and John Reese were the other two to send messages, as well.

Here's the message.  It's about feeding 1,000,000 starving children in the world.

Please read this IMPORTANT MESSAGE.
http://www.ForAGreaterCause.org

Feeling hungry?

My guess is yes. Chances are, you'll be running to the
snack machine to grab a candy bar soon. Or hitting the
drive through for a combo meal. Or possibly sitting
down to a nice dinner at home with the family.

Whatever it is, you have the capacity to quiet your
hunger pains with very little effort, correct?

Great. Now hang on to that thought for a moment…

Because right now, there's more than 850 million people
hungry in the world. Right now. This very second.

850 million That's 100 times the population of New York
City, folks.

And I don't mean "Boy I sure got the munchies" hungry.
This is "I haven't eaten one bite of food in days"
hungry. The type you and I have never, ever
experienced.

Not even CLOSE.

Think that's shocking? What 'til you hear this…

Before morning, 16,000 kids around the world will drop
dead from starvation.

Newborns. Babies. Toddlers. Grade schoolers. Teenagers.
All fresh, young faces looking for a chance to make
their mark in the world.

But they won't. Because after weeks of pain, weakness,
and suffering, they'll finally succumb to the slow,
horrible death of starvation.

And here's the worst part–that's just TODAY.

Tomorrow, there will be another 16,000 dead children to
take their place.

And the next day.

And the next day.

And the next.

Am I getting through to you yet?

http://www.ForAGreaterCause.org

From now until Tuesday, May 29, my goal is to put food
in the bellies of 1,000,000 children around the world.

Don't worry–I'm not going to go all Sally Struthers on
you here. I'm not asking for anything except a few
seconds of your time.

In fact, I'm going to give YOU something fre, just for
helping out. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Go to http://www.ForAGreaterCause.org
Step 2: Download my fr
e success report called The
Power Of The Third Influence
Step 3: I'll donate a plate of food to Feed The
Children on your behalf.

That's it. You download. I donate. Simple as that.
And with your few seconds of effort, a little child
will go to bed with a full stomach.

How can you pass that up?

http://www.ForAGreaterCause.org

Inside this success report you'll discover…

    * How Stephen went from having 2-cents to my name to
    earning millions of dollars online.

    * How to turn around your life with a simple shift
    of association.

    * How to double your productivity and get more of
    the right things done.

And much more.

It's all yours–fr*e for the taking. Just go to the
website, download it, and I put another plate of food
in front of a hungry little face.

All because of you.

http://www.ForAGreaterCause.org

4 days. 1 million kids fed. We can do it–but you gotta
help me.

This is your chance to really make a difference. As a
parent…a grandparent…a brother…a sister…a
friend.

All I'm asking is for one simple download, and I'll do
the rest. In fact, I don't even care if you read my
report.

Will The Power Of The Third Influence inspire you?
Sure.

Will it make you think? Absolutely.

Will you be closer to achieving personal success after
reading it? I believe so.

But the real power behind this report is not in what it
will do for you, but what it will do for a million
hungry kids.

All I'm asking is that you take 10 seconds to download
it. 10 seconds and a hungry child gets to eat.

Isn't that worth 10 seconds of your time?

http://www.ForAGreaterCause.org

Right this minute, there's 16,000 kids that won't live
to see tomorrow morning…unless something changes.

We might not be able to save them all. But with God's
help–and yours–we'll save a bunch of them.

Can I count on you? Or more to the point…

Can they?

Now it’s your turn. Visit:

www.foragreatercause.org

and Stephen will donate a plate of food for a starving child on your behalf.

Stephen is giving away a free report that will teach you about building wealth. (Stephen has gone from having 2 cents to his name to making millions of dollars online.)

This report is yours free.

Pick up your free report and help a starving child.

Go to www.foragreatercause.org

Take care,

Quick Results From Web 2.0 Traffic Sources

I started to write this post a few weeks ago but wanted to see more results

from my social marketing efforts, when I received some news the other day

that I wanted to share:

"Putting your customers first; What a concept!"

When I saw (through google alerts) that the NYTimes.com commented on my video

this really excited me.  I mean, not that they wrote how wonderful and fantastic

I am or anything like that :)

but just the fact that I was mentioned on their website

after a one day old blogpost and a two week old video.

Things like this happen with social marketing - getting attention after a couple of weeks

because of a blogpost and a cheesy video.

I'll be sure to continue to improve my videos and blogposts as I go along;

you never know who is reading or viewing them,

and they have a very long life on the Internet - like forever!

My guess is that the last article I submitted to AOL's propeller.com,

attracted their attention, which had no mention of the video,

and then they did a search on my website.

Another example of the speed of social media is YouTube and Metacafé and other video sites.

Without me lifting a single finger, 226 people had viewed my video on YouTube and about 125

people on metacafé after a couple of days, and I haven't even checked

all the other sites that I submitted the video to.

Now that isn't a gigantic number, but many videos never get ANY views at all.

Yet another example from social media marketing is the fact that blog posts that I wrote almost

a year ago are getting attention now that I am social bookmarking some of my new posts;

when people pick up on them they also search for other material by me.

This shows the importance of actually writing something that will be of value to the reader.

When I distributed my video, I used both Traffic Geyser (which submits to over 30 sites),

a paid service, but also a free service that submits to 12 sites at the same time.

Here's a link to TubeMogul.com

Anyway, because of this one simple little video and a few articles that I have submitted

to the social bookmarking sites in the past few weeks, people are blogging about things

like the StomperNet article I wrote about LAST YEAR -

this also demonstrates the power of press releases through PR WEB's paid services.

People are translating my articles into Italian, Spanish, and Asian language or languages too.

Only 10 or so blogposts/articles that have gotten circulated of them and just one on PR Web.

I'll come with a new post on where to submit Press Releases for free

when I have tried these services and seen some results.

I have not gotten traffic from my articles at Ezine Articles, etc. but submitting articles there gives "expert" status,

although it would appear that the content is not being attributed to me.  People like to borrow a lot.

But when you social bookmark, people blog about what you write about.

I used SocialMarker.com to submit to 30 different socialbookmarking sites.   This is a free service.

The initial job of joining all of these sites is well worth the effort in the traffic

and attention that you receive later on.

A few of the really big marketers are publishing a lot of really good and free content right now.

StomperNet released a new video that is a real eye-opener for people who haven't

waken up to Web 2.0 marketing yet.  Like their Going Natural series of free videos that

preemted the now famous StomperNet launch (at least in Internet Marketing circles),

this new video will also show you how to get more traffic. And it will show you

how to improve your conversions. But it's also going to show you where the Internet

(and your prospects) are going in the next year or two.; how to take the tidal wave

called Social Media and turn it into Social MARKETING.

Here's a link to the StomperNet video.  I don't have an affiliate link: (I wish!)

GoingNatural 2 video series

The Stomper people have also published a free guide that you will want to print out and have by your computer.

Good stuff!  This is of course the precurser to their newest product launch,

but there is of course no obligation whatsoever - just very informative and a very useful guide.

Happy Social Marketing!

BlackMask Sucks $10,000 PER DAY Out Of Adsense

Just the other day, I was fed up with Adwords, and today I think I may have found my salvation.  I just purchased Project Black Mask from the same team behind two of the fastest-selling Clickbank ebook of all time: the Day Job Killer…which sold over 7,000 copies on the first day of its release…and Affiliate Project X, which sold over 6,000 copies in the first week. The reason for the massive success of these money-making guides is simple: people who bought them made money, so the success spread and went viral all over the internet! So, you can clearly see that Google's Dirty Little Secret is going to be THE number One money-making affiliate guide for 2007!

The sales copy is really hypey, but don't let that fool you; these are some really cool and downright dirty tactics!!!  I will be up all night learning to apply them.

These tactics make Google… HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS… maybe even MILLIONS daily.  I am certain they must be aware of them.

This package may be the single most important investment I made this year

…and the thing about investments is, you have to strike while the iron is… cheap!   I will be up all night working on this.

I spoke to Chris from DayJobKiller and even though “Google's Dirty Little Secret” has only been out less than an hour, he's already talking about raising the price.

So get in now, while the getting is good.

Here's a few things about this product:

The ebook contains the kind of stealthy, underground and downright nasty techniques (supposedly stolen from the successful and rich internet money-makers) which the Day Job Killer team is widely renowned for. It is very short and straight to the point, less than 100 pages and is extremely easy to read. It has no fluff, no hype, no outdated black hat redundant techniques that doesn't work any more. The techniques are said to be used right now by a few people in-the-know who are making a killing with it online.

This ebook is not just a re-hash of the same weak information that you can see in a hundred other products; this system is compiled by a very clever but average guy who just happened to 'crack' Google's secret formula and is now make big money every day online. So, you know you're dealing with someone who understands what it's really like to have to struggle hard for a living.

The techniques are very easy to learn. You don't have to be a computer genius, or an online marketing expert, or have a degree in physics, or learn any special new skills to use them to start making big money online. Anyone can do it.

The techniques in the ebook shows affiliates how to avoid losing money on PPC campaigns like Adwords: it reveals more powerful and effective alternative ways for the average affiliate to make money from Google other than having to buy expensive clicks…and then handing the profits right back to pay for the campaign costs. With the Google secrets contained in this ebook, it is seems like it would be impossible NOT to make substantial money online.   And there is an eight week guarantee.

The ebook exposes all the misleading myths about making money with Google Adsense: most people will NEVER make more than pocket change from Adsense…while a few savvy individuals make millions of dollars every year. Google's Dirty Little Secret reveals the whole truth about what is really going on behind the scenes, why most of the Adsense guides out there are worse than useless and how the smart few underground Adsense multi-millionaires are making a killing, laughing all the way to the bank every single day of their lives…and explains how to easily copy their secret formula to grab a piece of the Google mountain of wealth that awaits every one who discovers the formula.

You don't have to be rich or have a lot of money to invest in order to start making money with the Google's Dirty Little Secret techniques. Inside the ebook, you will find little-known ways of making money with Google which will generate a huge profit…but without having to spend a lot of money to implement them. You will learn very clever tricks and short-cut ways of 'stealthily' siphoning off huge amounts of money from other clueless marketers without them even knowing what's happening until it's too late.

You will be entitled to free lifetime updates on the program. These techniques are so hard-core and stealthy that they work phenomenally well in today's online marketplace. But of course, as we know, nothing on the internet ever stays the same. When these internet changes happen, Google's Dirty Little Secret will get updated to reflect them so that you continue to make money. And as a buyer of the ebook, you will receive these updates to the program for free whenever they occur, no matter how long ago you bought your copy.

Getting large volumes of quality traffic from Google to your website is very hard to do, right? Wrong? Not when you use the powerful, little-known and highly efficient techniques contained in the blueprint. The ebook reveals some of the easiest and most effective ways to drive hungry, motivated buyers to any website, quickly and without any effort, anytime you wish. The techniques are designed to be easy, fast and furious, so you don't even have to know anything at all about SEO and traffic to be able to start using them immediately.

You will NEVER find the techniques anywhere else on the planet…because these are not methods used by regular Internet Marketers. This ebook was created out of a system which is being used by such highly secretive individuals that there is absolutely zero chance of you ever meeting them in your life. So, the information you'll discover in the ebook is literally priceless. Purchase through my link below and receive bonuses of new and ready to sell products with resell rights worth $1470.00.
